maple

A sign winter is coming to an end – beer that references Spring! Between this Spring Maple, Muskoka’s Spring Oddity and Wiarton Willie, it already feels warmer. This beer pours shockingly light, clear and gold with a dusting of white foam. I could almost watch TV through this beer. Malty with a sweet sugary maple syrup nose. The taste is very “blonde ale”ish with a clean finish. I’ve sampled maple beers before and I will say it is a tough combination. But as a proud patriotic Canadian, I will keep drinking until I find the perfect balance. With this beer, the taste of the maple sweetness is very subtle but the nose is very sweet and sugary. They don’t work against each other – my nose and mouth are both happy but for different reasons. It’s a solid and easy drinking brew rather than they heavy and sweet complex treat I was expecting. Get yer plaid ‘n denim on and try it; but the bottle is big and pricey so split it with a close lumberjack friend.

Bonus points for keeping it local and using Ontario Maple Syrup.
